Montagues, Capulets, breakin' battles and records!
What a busy, buzzy weekend full to the brim with dancing we’ve just had! It began on Friday with 27 children from Welshpool Church in Wales Primary School performing a curtain raiser before Ballet Cymru’s Romeo a Juliet at the Hafren in Newtown. Ballet Cymru had been resident in the school all week, as part of their DUETS project (funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Arts Council of Wales). We are one of the community dance partners on this great project, which aims to addressing fundamental gaps in provision for dance opportunities in Wales.
On Saturday it was the second of our monthly WEEEKEND BREAKIN’ sessions, led by amazing B-girl Rosa. The very busy 8-12 year old group had some very special guests in the form of Ill Drillerz, a B-Boy crew which includes local B-Boy (and occasional Impelo dance leader!) Stan Blake. We received HUGE demands for an adult breakin’ session after seeing the Ill Drllerz skillz! We recommend you book early for December’s workshops!
We rounded off the weekend by taking part in the nationwide Tapathon for Children in Need. 29 dancers aged from 5 to 82 tapped away to Take That’s Out of our Heads (which we now can’t get out of OUR heads!) along with tappers all over the UK in a bid to beat the world record for most people simultaneous tapping the same routine. Overseen by Llandrindod Mayor, Cllr Steve Deeks D’Silva, the group put on an excellent show for an audience of family and friends. We await to hear whether the world records has been beat!
Ballet, tap, breakin’ - if any of these varied dance styles are tempting you to join us in dancing your way to a better life, check out our classes page for more details.
