Such a precious time, laughing and dancing together
— Do Your Thing! (Weekly Programme) Participant

Supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of children, young people and adults through a regular and consistent dance programme which unlocks and nurtures creativity, building communities and supporting participants' health and happiness.

Situated in the heart of Llandrindod Wells, our base, our dance centre home is a welcoming and multi purpose dance studio space that hosts 17 Impelo dance sessions per week as well as weekend workshops, holiday intensives, touring dance companies and residencies for our professional dance team here in Powys. We also support external hirers delivering sessions here with 7 sessions on offer per week in fitness and arts activities. Sessions are delivered by an array of practitioners, offering different styles of dance for a range of ages; babies, toddlers, children, young people, adults, older adults and people with disabilities.

For 5-18 year olds there has been a 2000% increase in children’s and young people’s mental health issues as well as growing levels of obesity. Work poverty and the cost of living crisis (which will have particularly high impact in Powys due to its geography and infrastructure) means our programme is more important than ever in supporting our immediate community in Llandrindod Wells. We ensure the cost for these sessions is always subsidised along with always offering participants opportunities to attend for free or at a cost that’s affordable for them.

75% of classes are aimed at 0 - 18 years and 25% of classes are for adults. Powys’s older population is one of the highest in the UK and set to increase significantly over the next 10 years. Development for our weekly programme aims to widen our offer for adults over the coming years to address the increasing population of elderly residents. Particular issues in Powys include rural isolation and poor access to services, therefore our provision for this older demographic will include considerations of how people get to the Dance Centre and the rural context of the area.

Over the last few years our dance centre programme has supported young dancers progressing to HE performing arts studies, hosted dance companies such as Ransack Dance, Phoenix Dance Theatre and Fio, deliver a whole range of holiday and weekend provision, offering different opportunities to dance, different styles and art forms.

Given that the space is hireable we’ve been able to work with Flying Start supporting parent wellbeing events, connecting us with new communities, welcoming new audiences to the Dance Centre for the first time.
